Learning Aims

The students are expected to:

1. have a better understanding of Millie’s and Simon’s problems.

2. learn to give advice to Millie and Simon.

3. share their findings, thoughts and feelings in reading.

Learning Procedures

Activity One

1. Show a story of Kimi to present some new words and meanings.

2. Show the ways to ask for suggestions and present the youth worker.

3. Predict what problems Millie and Simon probably have according to the picture.

(Reading tip: To predict is to guess what comes next.)

Activity Two

Step One  Watch a video and try to check your answers.

What are Millies and Simons problems? 

Step Two  Skim the two letters and finish Part B2.       

Step Three Millie’s letter

1. Read Millies letter quietly and quickly and do ‘T’ or ‘F’ questions.

(     ) 1. Millie may feel tired and sleepy the next day because of staying up late to play computer games.

(     ) 2. Millie has enough spare time for her hobbies.

    (     ) 3. Millie wants a long holiday in order to have time for her hobbies.

(     ) 4. Millie is sure that it is worth spending much time on homework.

(     ) 5. Millie thinks it important to have hobbies in her life.

2. Read Millie’s letter loudly to appreciate good words and retell something about Millie according to the flow chart.

1. Read Simons letter quickly and silently and answer the questions.

(1)What is the cause of his problem?

(2)Why has his love of football become the cause of his problem?

(3)Why does Simon get into trouble when he gets home?

(4)What does Simon think of his parents?

(5)How does Simon feel?

Find out the 4 powerful adverbs to show Simon is crazy about football.

Thinking: Do you think Simons parents are really strict with him? Why or why not?

2. Read Simons letter aloud and try to fill in the table.
